$ky: Money Matters
Overview: $ky: Money Matters is a financial education game that is used in Boys and Girls Clubs of America across the country in tandem with their Money Matters financial education program. Create your avatar, select your future goals (like if you want to go to trade school, college or continue to graduate school and your lifestyle options (like if you want a family and how comfortably you want to live), select your current goals (how important finance, saving, exercise, part-time jobs and hobbies are), then fly your island around the world, collecting badge pieces by working at islands or grabbing them in falling bubbles.
You start in high-school, collecting education bubbles to complete your education. You can then get a further degree or just get a job and focus on your badges. Balance purchases with cash or credit and try to climb to the top of the $ky by making sound financial decisions. Land on floating islands to get a job, purchase items to earn badges or manage your finances.
You can pause the game to check your financial progress, customize your house with your purchased items, see your expenses graphed out and check your biggest gains and losses. Each decision you make is tracked and shown in a chart, werein you can click any decision and alter it to see how it would have affected you instead.
You can choose short, medium or long games, depending on how much time you have. The game is made to run on very low end mobile devices so you can select the quality of the graphics in the options menu. Create an account and log in to save your progress across sessions and see how high up you can get in $ky!
Role: Lead Developer. Worked in design of game mechanics that would be both fun and would teach the desired principles. Lead development on project from initial prototype to completion and polish of game mechanics. Developed online content sharing system to allow easy editing and exporting of game values between developers, team, and clients. Created game's architecture to allow team members to extend and generate more content. Involved in nearly all aspects of development until shortly before launch and support.
